Nafplio

Nafplio, also known as Anapli is a city of the Peloponeseand Capital of the Argolida province and the largest port of the east Peloponnese. Nafplio is famous for the Bourtzi, a prison-fortress build on an islet in the port, Palamidi a Venetian citadel overlooking the city and Akronauplia (known in Turkish as Its-Kale) the another castle adorning the City and the location where Ioannis Capodistrias was infamously assassinated. Nafplio is a popular destination with Athenians due to its proximity. Two of the most beautiful buildings of the city are, the Armansberg mansion (residence of the controversial regent) and the archaeological museum located at the Syntagmaplaza. The lovers of art will be pleased to know they can find an annex of Greek National Gallery in the city.
