Piraeus is the largest industrial center of Greece, having the largest port facilities of Europe and being the third largest passenger hub of Europe, making it Greece’s largest commercial hub. Lastly Piraeus is the heart of the passenger ferry network for the Islands of the Aegean Sea.
The center of Piraeus is 12 kilometers away from the center of Athens of which, it is its main seaport. The mayoralty of Piraeus is the headquarters of the Piraeus prefecture which also includes the hyper prefecture of Athens-Piraeus.
